It is not our intention to go into the merits of the artistic choices linked to the New Year’s celebrations, nor to fuel useless political controversies, but we are forced to express our total dissatisfaction for the lack of recognition towards the Police Forces, who intervened following the attack suffered by our colleagues in Catanzaro on the night of New Year’s Eve.” This was declared Rocco Morelli, Provincial General Secretary of the Fsp State Police Union of Catanzaro, who expresses the discontent of the category in the aftermath of the events.

“We have launched an appeal to the municipal administration and to the organizers of New Year’s Eve in the square, asking that the evening open with a symbolic gesture of solidarity, a simple applause for the three officers injured following a chase after a criminal in the maritime area of city. Despite our invitation, both the organizers and the main artist on stage completely ignored our request. ‘The Matador’ did not hesitate to bring out a song from his repertoire in which he exalts the possession of a gun with which to shoot at the cops. Far from solidarity, a further exaltation of violence against the police. We consider that this type of attitude does not represent a good example to follow, especially on a highly visible public occasion such as the New Year’s Eve stage, paid for with citizens’ money”

“We hope that those who hold public positions can review attitudes and choices which, unfortunately, denote a lack of closeness to those who put their lives at risk every day to guarantee the safety of the community”, concludes Morelli.
