Flames at dawn in the historic center of Lungro. An arson fire consumed three cars of an entrepreneur parked in via Dei Cinquecento and via Cattedrale. The explosion of the tires of the first vehicle woke up the inhabitants of the area. In a few minutes a Volkswagen Golf parked under the owner’s house was reduced to scrap metal. The tongues of flame from the fire also damaged the entrance to the house inhabited by a disabled person confined to a wheelchair. The smoke released by the fire, in a few moments, blackened the entire façade of the house, making the rooms unbreathable.
The providential intervention of the volunteers of the “Pollino H24” civil protection group of Lungro rescued the man and his sister, trapped within the home. After having put out the first fire, the volunteers alerted the firefighters and the carabinieri of the local command station
