A photo portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the Scottish castle of Balmoral with her grandchildren, taken in August 2022, therefore a month before the death of the sovereign, has been retouched in some minor details from Buckingham Palace before its release last year to mark what would have been the monarch's 97th birthday. As we read on the Guardian website, the American photographic agency Getty Images discovered this after the reviews launched in the wake of the scandal of the manipulated image of Kate released by Kensington Palace last week and then withdrawn amid general embarrassment.
In the case of the photo portraying the Queen, however, it was a purely aesthetic adjustment, concerning secondary details, while for Kate an attempt was suspected to deceive public opinion after the stolen shot of the previous days in which the Princess of Wales appeared swollen in his face and in a still imperfect state of health after the abdominal operation he underwent in January.
