Counteracting childhood obesity starting from school: this is the spirit with which the G. Martino Polyclinic of Messina and the Giacomo Leopardi comprehensive institute celebrated obesity day 2025. The initiative, which is part of the national campaign promoted by the Italian association of dietetics and clinical nutrition together with the Italian society of pediatric endocrinology and diabetology, this year placed the emphasis on motto: «Pediatric obesity: let’s stop it before it grows!».
In the weeks preceding October 10, 2025, the classrooms and corridors of the school were transformed into a truly interactive teaching laboratory where children, guided by doctors, nutritionists, kinesiologists and teachers, learned the value of correct nutrition, movement and psychophysical well-being. Not frontal lessons, but games, practical activities and shared experiences, designed to also involve families and school staff.
Alongside Professor Wasniewska, director of the complex paediatrics operational unit, and Professor Mariella Valenzise, regional contact for childhood obesity, numerous specialists from the Polyclinic are involved.
