“After having accepted the various requests of citizens, colleagues and friends of the late doctor Giovanni Condemihead of the complex Oncology operational unit, and as already expressed on several institutional occasions, I addressed to the Asp the proposal to name the department after Dr. Condemi.
I spoke with the general director of the Asp doctor Lucia Di Furia whom I thank for having shown sensitivity and promptly expressed the utmost availability and sharing towards this proposal, a common feeling of the entire community and of the healthcare workers who worked with the doctor”.
Thus the regional councilor Giovanni Calabreseon the eve of the inauguration of the new Nole oncology center (Nuova oncology Locri Epizefiri) at the Locri hospital, which will be held on January 27th.
“The inauguration of the new Oncology department, created with the Nole project conceived and promoted by the “Angela Serra” Association for cancer research of which Dr. Massimo Federico is president, is truly an exciting achievement and being able to share this moment remembering the doctor and all the people who believed in us and who are no longer with us today, it is even more significant. The redevelopment of this department – continues Calabrese – was an example of synergy between public and private which highlighted teamwork. All this made possible thanks to the commitment of the Angela Serra Association, the many donations from citizens, the collaboration of the Municipalities, the Institutions, the world of associations and schools, the initiatives in favor of the project and the sensitivity of the President of the Calabria Region , Roberto Occhiutoand of the entire Council which, in 2023, allocated 500 thousand euros to the Association for the completion of the important project and supported the Asp of Reggio Calabria, with a loan for the purchase of furnishing supplies for the refunctionalization ”.
“A long journey – he explains – which started with a few people but then involved entire communities, strengthening the desire to contribute to the creation of a center that could be a point of reference for the sick who, finding the professionalism and competence of the doctors, will be able to be treated close to home, close to your family and with ‘the sea around’. Precisely among these people who began this long, difficult, engaging and supportive journey towards a dream that became reality, there was Dr. Giovanni Condemi, head of the Oncology UOC, who passed away prematurely in the midst of his duties, leaving a void. unbridgeable. His stubbornness, his caring professionalism and sensitivity towards his patients were essential to achieving this goal. Doctor Condemi – finally highlights the Calabrese councilor – spent his life for the sick, his work was precious and he carried out his task with loving passion and sensitivity. He was the promoter of the Nole project, he believed in it, he supported many battles, he never held back so that the dream could become reality”.
