They harassed two entrepreneurs from Catanzaro with some extortion attempts aggravated by mafia methods. The facts were reconstructed by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Catanzaro thanks to the investigation called Pay Up which highlighted the role of the Catarisano gang, active in the territories of Borgia and the district and closely connected to the ‘Ndrangheta gangs of Isola Capo Rizzuto and San Leonardo di Cutro, in addition to connections with other Calabrian gangs.
The soldiers of the Carabinieri have implemented a precautionary measure in prison issued by the investigating judge, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against three people seriously suspected of complicity in as many extortion attempts aggravated by mafia purposes and methods against two entrepreneurs from the Catanzaro province. The investigation began in May 2025 following the complaint of two entrepreneurs and developed mainly through complex technical activities of telephone and environmental interception, analysis of numerous video surveillance images, repeated observation and shadowing services.
The attempted extortions were perpetrated for the maintenance of the inmates of the clans involved in the operation.
