Gibellina has been appointed capital of contemporary art 2026 and to honor the appointment the artistic director of the Orestiadi, Alfio Scuderi, wants to make visual arts and theater dialogue, music and literature dialogue. The 44/per season of the Festival, which in its DNA brings the sign of contemporary art, will open on July 4 to end on August 3. A season to “bring enthusiasm to the future”, says the president of the Orestiadi Foundation, Francesca Corrao. The mayor Salvatore Sutera speaks of “strong collaboration of all the municipalities of the territory, the Foundation and the institutions, because they network leads to very high results”. Scuderi stressed that “Gibellina Capital of Contemporary Art is a recognition that speaks of the history of the territory so loved by Ludovico Corrao”, which was long mayor and architect of cultural awakening.
The artistic director imagined a big party, “the night of the contemporary”, on 27 and 28 June, to honor the past and above all to consolidate the future, with five musicians who will play in the squares and palaces of Gibellina.
The Festival will begin on July 4th with a rewriting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth made by Sergio Rubini. There is no shortage of the first national teams: «Wonder Woman», by Antonio Latella who tells a rape; The show dedicated to “The ecstasy of the struggle” by Camille Claudel and, again, “the part for the whole”, story of art and love of Manlio Santanelli with Silvia Ajelli. The closure is entrusted to Luca Zingaretti who will read “Autodifesa di Caino” by Andrea Camilleri at Burri’s Cretto, on July 31st. And to stay in Camilleri, Olivia Sellerio presents “Zara Zabara”, songs composed by her who close the episodes of the successful TV series of Commissioner Montalbano.
The boys with Down syndrome will be the protagonists of the “dream of a midsummer night” adapted by alchemical theaters. Davide Enia on July 19th will remember Paolo Borsellino and following Roberto Andò will present his latest novel, “The Crocodile of Palermo”. Emma Dante will be staged with a revised and correct fairy tale, “the song of the siren”. The closure, as always, at the Cretto ” Participation of Isabella Ragonese.
