«Three disabled Calabrian brothers are periodically forced, for health reasons, to reach Bologna, starting from Reggio Calabria, to undergo the treatment and checks they need. Yet Trenitalia trains have only two stations per carriage dedicated to the disabled.”
This was stated by the deputy of the 5 Star Movement Anna Laura Orrico. «There would obviously be a need for three stations – says Orrico. A circumstance that has already been made present several times by the family and by the mother of the three boys who accompanies them on these journeys of hope. However, she was informed that it is not possible to change the composition of the trains and that the difficulties would be linked to the availability of the staff necessary to manage a possible additional carriage. In short, in one fell swoop, the right to health, mobility and equal opportunities of a family experiencing a condition of serious fragility are compromised. This is why in recent days I decided to write to Trenitalia and the president of the Occhiuto Region asking them to take urgent action, each according to their own skills, so that a stable solution is identified that will allow the brothers to reach Bologna whenever necessary and the next one will be on 15 September”.
«Such a situation – continues the five-star exponent – requires an assumption of responsibility on the part of the institutions and all the subjects involved. In fact, it is not acceptable that an organizational limit could translate, in fact, into an obstacle that does not allow three of our fellow countrymen to be able to move in conditions of safety and dignity.” «The case – concludes Anna Laura Orrico -, hopefully solved, of the brothers should not be an exception but rather the rule of a system that works and is at the service of people and not of the market because having to beg for public transport that is up to the standards of all citizens and in particular of those who live in such delicate conditions is not compatible with the expectations of a civilized country».
