At least twelve people were killed and 27 injured in the attack carried out this morning by a suicide bomber outside the district court of Islamabad. This was announced by the Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, upon his arrival at the scene of the explosion.

According to initial reconstructions by local media, a man attempted to enter the main gate of the G-11 court in Islamabad and when he was prevented, he detonated a bomb near a police vehicle.

In a post on X, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and paid tribute to the police. The reaction of the Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, was harsh, pointing the finger at Afghanistan after the clashes along the border in recent weeks. “We are in a state of war,” he wrote again on X, “and today’s suicide attack on the district court in Islamabad is a wake-up call.” It is useless, he warned, “to place great hopes in the success of the negotiations with the rulers of Kabul”.
