Critical situation in Pannaconi, a hamlet in the municipality of Cessaniti, where the area adjacent to the school attended daily by numerous children is in conditions that parents define as “unacceptable”. The case was raised by a group of moaners, concerned about the state of abandonment in which the fields and spaces used by the little ones immediately after leaving school are found. There are many critical issues reported: broken or even suspended football goals, nets torn up and left on the ground, presence of fleas and ticks and, above all, precarious sanitary conditions that put children’s health at risk.

“It’s a serious situation – they say – our children leave school and find themselves playing in an area that should be safe but which is instead dangerous in several respects”. Among the most urgent reports is also the presence of methane doors that are open and not adequately secured.

To further complicate the picture, the presence of some stray dogs. The families, however, did not stand still: a procedure has already been activated, with the support of a doctor, for the recovery of the puppies and the sterilization of the mother. An intervention that demonstrates the citizens’ sense of responsibility, but which – they underline – cannot replace the action of the institutions.

Despite reports to the Municipality, the parents denounce, “no concrete response has been received, neither for cleaning the area nor for managing the animals or making the structures safe”.

Discontent is growing and further initiatives on the part of parents cannot be ruled out, ready to mobilize to protect their children and obtain immediate interventions. “We just want our children to be able to go in and out of nursery and school and play in a safe and dignified environment,” they conclude.

The affair puts the spotlight back on the issue of maintenance of public spaces and safety in areas frequented by children, prompting urgent intervention on the part of the competent authorities.
