The grip of high fuel prices: the EU says yes to aid from the Sicilian Region

The text had been ready for days, but we had to wait for the green light from the European Commission, which arrived this week and was necessary to unblock the measure, which will now be examined by the Sicilian Regional Assembly, in the form of an amendment in one of the two bills about to land in the ARS chamber.
This is the 25 million euros allocated last month by the Schifani government to mitigate the high cost of fuel and intended for the three sectors most exposed to the Strait of Hormuz crisis and the economically devastating consequences of the war between the USA and Iran.
Particularly affected, and on their knees for weeks, are the road transport, agriculture and fishing sectors. The community rule of “de minimis” hung over the resources defined by the Sicilian council, i.e. the maximum aid limit allowed by Brussels to avoid violating competition rules, currently set at 300 thousand euros per company: a limit that many Sicilian companies have already exceeded.
