Controls in the area have been intensified by the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Paola, who in recent days have conducted an extraordinary crime prevention and repression service. The operation, which involved 20 soldiers of the force, led to the arrest of an international wanted man, the sanctioning of a commercial establishment and the reporting of three young people for drug use.
During the service, the military identified and arrested a 32-year-old Mexican national in the historic center of Cetraro, recipient of a European arrest warrant issued on 30 September by the German judicial authority. The man must serve a 15-year prison sentence for the crimes of kidnapping and kidnapping. After being traced by the Carabinieri of the Cetraro station, the wanted man was taken to the prison in Paola, where he remains in precautionary custody awaiting the decision on extradition.
At the same time, the checks – conducted with the support of the Labor Inspectorate (NIL) and Anti-Tastification and Health (NAS) Units of Cosenza – led to the administrative fine of approximately 10,000 euros against a commercial premises in Paola, where hygiene-sanitary deficiencies and the presence of an irregular worker were found. The suspension of the activity was also ordered in case of failure to regularize the violations.
During the same service, control activities were also extended to combating the phenomenon of drug dealing and consumption. Three young people were reported to the Prefecture as they were found in possession of small quantities of hashish and cocaine intended for personal use.
The operation is part of the enhanced surveillance plan prepared by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Cosenza, aimed at guaranteeing greater security in the area and combating the various forms of widespread illegality.
