Farewell to Giovanni Angotti, engineer, among the most representative figures of the profession in Calabria and Italy. He passed away in Catanzaro at the age of 93. A man of great culture and vision, he dedicated his life to the profession and contributed decisively to its evolution, presiding over the National Council from 1990 to 1999, a historical period of profound changes. He continued his commitment to the profession and university education at the helm of the Study Center of the National Council of Engineers, which he founded, which he presided over the following decade. He participated in the reorganization of engineering studies in the commission of the Ministry of the University.
In Calabria, where he chose to return in 1956 after graduating in Engineering from the University of Pisa, his name is linked to many public building works – university, school, residential and service – and to important road and railway infrastructures. Born in Colosimi, in the province of Cosenza, on 19 June 1932, he was a protagonist in the economic, political and cultural life of the city and held numerous positions in trade organisations, committees, councils, commissions, participating in planning and testing of public works. For almost twenty years he was a member of the Superior Council of Public Works. He was president of Claiu (Comité de LIasion des Associations d’Ingegnieurs Universitaires de la Comunitè Europenne) based in Brussels and of Feani, the federation of national professional bodies representing engineering in European countries. He was a member of the CNEL in the period 1995-2000. He was part of the board of directors of the University of Calabria from 1979 to 1987, years in which the university acquired an increasingly important role.
