An operational meeting convened by the Prefect, Cosima di Stani, was held in the Prefecture, to take stock of the situation in via Garipoli, in Taormina, affected by the presence of dangerous rocky blocks. The meeting was attended by the mayor of Taormina Cateno De Luca, representatives of the police, civil and military authorities, and technicians of the company in charge of the interventions.
During the summit it was confirmed that The controlled shineing of the explosive offices will take place on May 18thtwenty days in advance of the scheduled times. An acceleration made possible by the declaration of the state of emergency signed by the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, who unlocked resources and allowed a rapid start of the procedures. To ensure safety during the brilliant operation, on May 18 the highway and neighboring areas will be closed to traffic from 5 to 8 in the morning
Further technical meetings are already scheduled in the next few days to precisely define the tasks of each body involved. A new operational meeting will be held on May 17 at the Municipality of Taormina, in the presence of the Prefect and the Mayor.
The mayor De Luca has expressed satisfaction with the work done so far: “There have been no significant critical issues, and this thanks to the efficiency of the Civil Protection, the Municipal Police, the police and the coordination in the Prefecture,” he said. He then underlined the importance of the regional measure, which avoided more serious consequences.
The aim of the administration is to reach a full reopening of the street by June 18, in view of the visit of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to Taormina.
