Tomorrow Reggina will face Ragusa away, a match not to be missed, while Athletic Palermo will host Milazzo. The general director of the Palermo team is Giorgio Perinetti who with his experience has brought a newly promoted team to one point from the top. The ranking, at the moment, says this: «It is like this – declares the seasoned manager – even if we prefer to remain with our feet on the ground. Last Sunday we achieved arithmetic permanence and from now on we will have fun. We didn’t set out to win the championship, but by being there we will try to have our say. Appetite comes with eating, let’s not put limits on providence.”
Do you believe it?
«Better to be realistic. We are aware that Reggina, Savoia and Igea have values. Ours is a new club, we play at the “Paolo Borsellino” velodrome and we intend to grow gradually. It’s clear that the ranking rewards us, but we prefer not to indulge in flights of fancy.”
Which is your favourite?
«For history, tradition and potential of the squad I say Reggina. A team that recovers eleven points at the top of the class cannot fail to have potential. The last defeat suffered dates back to last November against us. We won at the Granillo, we faced, it must be highlighted, a dull opponent, in the midst of a crisis.”
Did the turning point come with the arrival of Torrisi?
«Yes, he is a trained technician who has already obtained a promotion with Trapani. He has changed the mentality of the group and the results are rewarding him.”
Igea, Nyssa and Savoy: who do you think is the most credible to aspire to first place?
«Nissa and Savoia have good potential, while I think Igea is slightly behind the two I mentioned. We’ll see what happens, but, I repeat, for me Reggina is equipped to get to the end. Reggio is an important square that cannot remain in the shadows. Serie D is not in keeping with the club’s coat of arms.”
In the squad available to Torrisi, who impressed you?
«Ivy creates dangers when it sets off at speed. Throughout his career he has been haunted by injuries that have affected him. I had him in Venice, while Ragusa was one of my players at Brescia. These are elements capable of making a difference, not to mention Barillà and Adejo.”
Can Ragusa put Reggina in difficulty?
«On paper there shouldn’t be a match, but be careful not to underestimate the commitment. There are no matches with a predictable outcome and the hosts will try to give their best with the aim of annoying the Amaranth “battleship”.
