Traffic jam at the entrance to Piazza della Repubblica: the usual story that happens frequently; and with the opening of schools it could even get worse. This morning the commander of the Local Police intervened, who was passing along the road, in the company of the mayor, returning from the institutional participation in a ceremony in Vibo Marina. Traffic jams are now a daily occurrence in that stretch and, in most cases, are caused by vehicles unloading goods, people shopping or simply… for a short stop. As mentioned, the situation required the intervention of Commander Giulio Dastoli, who got out of his service vehicle to clear the area and allow traffic to resume its regular flow. Mayor Sergio Pititto, in light of what happened, expresses his hope that we can witness a change in mentality on the part of citizens, or rather that fringe indifferent not only to the Highway Code but also to common sense.
The queues and traffic jams caused by sudden or prolonged stops can create not only traffic problems, but also safety and circulation problems. And in fact, a very short distance away there were firefighter vehicles passing by: “It is important that citizens collaborate – Pititto highlights – to ensure a more orderly and safe urban environment for everyone. To guarantee the correct functioning of urban traffic”. He thus makes an appeal for greater awareness and respect for road rules “so that situations like the one experienced this morning can be avoided in the future”.
