“In terms of popularity and votes, the Meloni government will pay dearly for the recent cut of 750 million that affected the Supplementary Fund of the PNRR, destined in particular for the Salerno-Reggio Calabria high-speed railway, to modernize roads and ports and to strengthen public health”. This was declared, in a note, by the senator Nicholas Irtosecretary of the Calabrian Democratic Party. “The executive led by the Northern League confirms – explains the Democratic MP – its political aversion towards the South. In order to increase the allocation of the tax credit within the single Zes, the government in office, a sworn enemy of territorial cohesion and social equity, is proposing the sleight of hand that it had experimented, among other things, to finance the useless bridge over the Strait: it does not put a cent on the priorities of the country but takes the money away from the essential services and infrastructures of the South and directs it elsewhere, this time condemning Calabria to the worst isolation and striking at the heart of its Regional Health Service”.
«The government cannot take away – Irto underlines – precious resources for the future of citizens. It is now clear that, for its own electoral gain, the center-right is aiming at the impoverishment and depopulation of the southern regions. This is a politically blind and sinister plan that, centered on differentiated autonomy, is already producing a widening of territorial gaps. Therefore, our political struggle continues with ever greater unity and determination. With the completion of the collection of signatures for the referendum against differentiated regionalism, we will give the center-right – concludes the senator of the Democratic Party – a very strong signal of dissent. In the meantime, with our proposals and by listening to local communities, we continue to build the government alternative, day after day”.
