“We do not need people or forces that create obstacles. We need, rather, people and forces that work for the city.” So Nicholas Flowerymayor of Catanzaro, elected in 2022 with the support of the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement and some civic lists, interviewed by Tgr Calabria the day after the withdrawal of the delegations to the councilors and the elimination of the Council after yet another unsuccessful inter-party vote and the exit from the majority by the council group headed by the municipal and regional councilor Antonello Talerico, of Forza Italia.

“Catanzaro in the coming months – added Fiorita – must make decisions that will change the face of the city. The tender for the port must be launched and the programming of the new Urban Agenda and Metro Plus must be launched, millions of euros that we have decided to allocate to the most disadvantaged suburbs. This is the meaning of my decisions. Everything is reset: if there is a majority that still wants to work for change, we move forward. Otherwise we will see what happens”.

In reference to the controversial positions taken by the Democratic Party, the mayor stated that “the Democratic Party has important members in the Council who, like me, have started many things. Now we need to understand if there is the will and the desire to go and reap the fruits of this work or if, in this sense, the conditions are no longer there”.

Regarding the disengagement from the majority of the center-right group that refers to the positions of regional councilor Talerico, Fiorita stated that “the resetting of the Council could perhaps serve to eliminate some anomaly that had been created and that did not make clear what we were doing.”
