«The law gives me thirty days to file an appeal before the Court of Appeal of Messina against the first degree sentence». Thus the mayor of Giardini – Naxos, Giorgio Stracuzziafter the sentence of the Messina court which declared him incompatible and therefore lapsed because his brother received a position from the Municipality.

«I want to reassure everyone – he adds – that in the meantime no automatic forfeiture will occur, neither for the undersigned nor for the Board that supports me. We have an important program of administrative and financial reforms to carry forward, which we have put in place with the Council.”

“I am saddened – he concludes – for having involuntarily brought Giardini Naxos to the headlines, without however being able to intervene in the slightest to remedy it. If anyone responsible can be identified, it is certainly the person who proposed the popular action, for never having had really cares about the fate of Giardini. The professional tasks entrusted by others to one of my family members remained in force without my being able to do anything. It is known that the mayor does not award or revoke contracts, in this case, service contracts. This situation also demonstrates how paradoxical and irrational the Court’s conclusion is.”
