“The system of Gioia Tauro, managed by IAm, is one of the largest in Southern Italy and deals with the purification of the waste of the 16 municipalities of the surrounding plain: next to the purification the disposal of non -hazardous liquid waste takes place, in particular the landfill leachate. The three -year trend sees that in most part the waste that arrives in the plant comes 35% from Calabria, then from Puglia, Molise and partly Sicily”. To say it is the president of Iiam Alessandro Polizzotto in the hearing at the parliamentary commission of inquiry on the illegal activities related to the waste cycle and on other environmental and agri -food offenses, at Palazzo San Macuto in Rome. “Gioia Tauro is the reference system in Calabria both for any emergencies and for the disposal of the leachate from other plants; Iam has public relations only with Calabrian plants, while the other relationships are of a private nature“, adds Polizzotto.
