The negative opinion on the request made by Carmar srl to expand the maritime state concession within the port of Catanzaro casts some shadows on the short-term future of the recreational facility. Also on the same prospect of extension, although foreseen by concession no. 1 of 2023 with which the process of awarding the contract to the Crotone company was concluded, after a long phase of stalemate which lasted approximately two and a half years between deserted tenders, revocations of the award by the Municipality and various legal events.
What has emerged in recent weeks actually raises more than one doubt about the future fate of the management of the two piers currently in the hands of Carmar; fears also recently expressed by Forza Italia councilors Alessandra Lobello and Antonello Talerico who in particular noted, in addition to the negative opinion expressed by the conference of services convened to discuss the request for expansion, the “complaints made by the Maritime District Office of the Soverato Coast Guard”, including issues linked to the landscape authorization and some discrepancies with respect to to the approved project. The two representatives asked for clarification on possible moves by the Municipality once they became aware of this situation, also highlighting that the concession will soon expire and the risk, in the absence of concrete choices, is to see the usability of the port “sink” again; a concern also expressed a few weeks ago by the “Friends of the port of Catanzaro Lido” association, which for its part had requested the extension of the assignment and now hopes to be able to discuss the mooring renewals as soon as possible.
