The project for the realignment and renovation of the Ponente quay of the Port of Gioia Tauro “must not be subjected to the procedure as it does not determine potential environmental impacts significant and negative”. This was announced by the authority of the Southern and Iconi Tyrrhenian Seas, presided over by the admiral Andrea Agostinelli. The measure was approved by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety on 28 April, at the end of the results of the technical commission of verification of the environmental impact via and Vas and the subcommittee via.
“The intervention – reads the note of the Authority – is located in the context of a in -depth processing and consolidation of the seabed of the port channel and the expansion basinas well as of functional technical adaptation ». The project provides for the rectification of existing alignments, a work that will allow overtaking in the port channel of large ships in the presence of other ultra-large ships, changes that guarantee greater safety and speed from the point of view of the maneuverability of the ships in the access and outgoing phases.
“The hypothesis of intervention – concludes the Authority – is adequate for the programming of the modernization of the port port, largely implemented, and in line with the technical functional adjustment that has already received favorable opinion from the Superior Council of Public Works to give greater and full functionality to the maritime airport by increasing competitiveness, safety levels and internal navigability, and ensuring greater efficiency of the port system in terms of performance”.
