To allow infrastructural strengthening interventions by the Italian Railway Network (FS Italiane Group) between the stations of Vibo, Pizzo and Mileto and extraordinary maintenance works on the Lamezia – Catanzaro Lido line, changes to railway traffic are expected from 25 October to 30 April 2026 on the Tirrenica, on the Via Tropea, between Lamezia and Catanzaro Lido and between Villa San Giovanni and Melito Porto Salvo. Extraordinary maintenance works will be carried out on the Lamezia-Catanzaro Lido line between the Lamezia and Marcellinara stations, and infrastructure upgrades between the Vibo Pizzo and Mileto stations, inside the Francica tunnel. These latest interventions consist in the adoption of a new construction standard for the track, called “Ballastless”, which, instead of resting on the traditional ballast, rests on rigid prefabricated platforms. In this way, in addition to obtaining a significant reduction in maintenance activities, the shape of the tunnel will be adapted, with a view to strengthening the combined rail freight transport system, within the Scandinavian – Mediterranean corridor. The overall investment of the works is over 60 million euros, with PNRR funds. Further information on railway circulation measures and the trains affected is available on the RFI website, on the digital channels of railway companies or from customer service staff and ticket offices
