“We were right: the plants abroad for receiving waste from the seafront landfills of the former industrial area exist and are available. We had said this on several occasions, both at the Services Conference and a few days after the issuing of the MASE decree of August 1, 2024. The confirmation came directly from Eni which communicated to us, among others, and in particular to the Ministry of the Environment, that the same company has completed the scouting activity abroad required by the decree itself and provided a list of companies that directly manage landfills in Europe where hazardous waste has already been disposed of”. This was stated in a note by the president of the Province of Crotone, Sergio Ferrariand the mayor Vincenzo Voce.
“Eni requested from them, by last September 30th, formal feedback regarding their availability to accept waste from sea landfills – they continued – receiving twenty-one formal feedback. On the basis of these feedback, it was possible to verify that there are ten landfills potentially compatible with the needs of the reclamation project located in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Finland. After analyzing the potential and capacity of these sites, Eni has selected two companies available for the disposal of the waste produced in 4 sites enabled in Germany and Sweden. According to ENI’s findings, the capacities available at these sites are “compatible with the needs of the project”. In December, ENI will arrange for the contractualization of the relationships for the purpose of starting the process for obtaining cross-border notifications pursuant to the new European regulation which could require a few months of time for the purposes of starting the contributions. We can only be satisfied with the content of the note sent today by ENI Rewind which proves what we have argued from the beginning on the basis of our investigations. We will evaluate in the next few days whether the content of this communication will have any effect on the litigation pending before the TAR of Calabria”.
