Reclamation of the former Crotone landfill: Mase is tightening the timescales for the interventions

Final battles for the reclamation of the former urban waste landfill in the Tufolo-Farina district of Crotone. The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has in fact convened the Conference of Decision-Making Services to approve the Municipality’s definitive project for the permanent safety of an 8 hectare area which is part of the Crotone Site of National Interest. Now the environmental bodies and agencies involved have 90 days to express their opinion on the work plan. At the same time, the Mase requested the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Crotone and Catanzaro and the Province to provide their opinions on the landscape authorisation.
Furthermore, only if necessary, the Roman dicastery of via Cristoforo Colombo has also set 2 March 2026 as the date by which to bring together the parties interested in the procedure in the capital. After that, once the decision-making phase has been passed, the environmental remediation works of the former landfill will be able to take hold.
