Recovery operations for the remains of the ultralight that crashed in a mountainous area in the Fuscaldo area, in the upper Tyrrhenian Cosentino, began in the morning. The personnel of the Saf unit of the Fire Brigade carried out the intervention. The material will then be preserved to allow the experts who will be appointed by the Paola Prosecutor’s Office, including an Air Force engineer, who has opened an investigation to trace the reasons that led to the accident.
This morning the task for carrying out the autopsy on the charred bodies of the two victims, the lawyers Carlo Arnulfo, 64 years old, from Rome, and Angela Buccico, 55 years old, from Matera, will also be formalized. The autopsy should take place next Monday or Tuesday at the latest and will be carried out by the forensic medicine team of the “Dulbecco” university hospital in Catanzaro, led by Professor Isabella Aquila, who yesterday afternoon proceeded to recover the bodies and carry out the first findings useful for the investigations.
The ascertainment of the causes of death is a central element to also help in the reconstruction of the dynamics of the accident as it could clarify whether the fire started before or due to the impact on the ground. The inspections in the area of the discovery were supported by the use of a new technology introduced by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro: a drone through which it was possible to document and correlate the evidence found at the crash site in relation to the position of the aircraft and the bodies.
