As part of the rehabilitation in Messina, the deputy provincial coordinator of Forza Italia, Giuseppe Santalco, intervenes with a note regarding the Pinqua project.

Santalco’s note

“In recent days, a profound sense of discouragement and discontent is increasingly emerging in the city over how the municipal administration has addressed the historic issue of urban regeneration and the elimination of shacks with the ‘Pinqua’ project, with methods, planning and construction of enormous buildings no longer in line with the new modern urban architecture, which ban the construction of barracks comparable to the ‘Vele di Scampia’ (among other things, in the course of abatement)”.
This was stated by the deputy coordinator of Forza Italia in Messina, Giuseppe Santalco, speaking on the matter.

“Forza Italia – adds Santalco – shares the doubts that are arising among the inhabitants and institutional references of the Bisconte and Annunziata areas.
In particular, we absolutely do not agree with the administration’s choice to build 41 dwellings in the Annunziata, in an area freed from demolition: first of all, it should be noted that Area A of the Annunziata redevelopment was completed with the construction of housing in Matteotti and there are no longer any shacks to be demolished in the area (while the project report refers to the 2002 census which is now largely outdated)”.

“The choice to build a further 41 homes in the Annunziata was unfortunate – continues the Forzista exponent – instead of providing services such as, for example, a local market, or an equipped urban park. Annunziata is an area characterized by notable urban settlements, university departments and sports facilities. The road system absolutely does not allow for a further housing load, both for civil protection reasons and for the lack of more escape routes, especially for the northern area, and in particular for the hospital facilities”.

The Azzurri, at this point, “are asking the Municipality to rethink the line taken so as not to continue to massacre the territory of the northern area of the city: the fifth district needs services, not further construction. Forza Italia, therefore, asks the administration to remodulate both the Annunziata project, converting it into a new rehabilitation project through, precisely, the creation of a park or a local market, as was done for the ‘Pinqua’ project of via Taormina. Alternatively, in the interest of the local community and to protect public safety, it is preferable to renounce the financing, rather than condemn the Annunziata to risks associated with the vulnerability of the territory which, as is known, is also crossed by a stream. We will take it upon ourselves to urge the City Council to address the problems that are arising in the city with the implementation of the ‘Pinqua’ project”, concludes Giuseppe Santalco.
