The Cathedral of Messina welcomed family, friends and acquaintances this morning for the final farewell to Egidio Blandina, the 29-year-old from Messina who died on 6 September in a tragic motorbike accident at the Agrigento kart track. During the homily, the priest remembered the young management engineer as a person characterized by “sunshine and joy of living”, underlining the energy, dreams and affection that he was able to transmit to those close to him. Blandina, niece of Ivo Blandina, president of the Messina Chamber of Commerce, worked in the family business together with her father Danilo and her uncle. Passionate about sports and motors, he was on the track for a day of free practice when, according to initial reconstructions, he lost control of the motorbike and ended up against a barrier. The Agrigento Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the dynamics of the accident.

On the day in which the city gathers in the Cathedral for the last farewell to the young engineer, the Young Entrepreneurs of Sicindustria Messina remember his dynamism, positivity and extraordinary ability to translate ideas into concrete actions. “This – they comment – is the profound mark that Egidio leaves within the Group, for which he was a precious presence and source of inspiration”https://messina.gazzettadelsud.it/articoli/cronaca/2026/09/12/solare-ed-entusiasta-messina-da-laddio-ad- egidio-blandina-cathedral-packed-for-the-funeral-of-the-young-engineer-28d87e5b-9cf0-43f2-88a3-4bb43e30a180/.”Always welcoming and helpful – add the Young Entrepreneurs – Egidio has been able to combine enthusiasm, concreteness and team spirit, making his qualities also available to the new generations”. In the last year he had in fact participated in the “Ideas in action” project, also aimed at students of the Minutoli Institute. In the role of mentor, he accompanied the boys in the development of the “Bodyguard Jacket”, making his engineering skills and passion for the world of motors available. The journey had led to an important result, celebrated together with the boys on the podium.

“Egidio leaves an indelible mark on all of us – comments Claudia Brudetto, president of the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Sicindustria, Messina Delegation -. We will miss his enthusiasm, his availability and his smile. The work done with the kids fully represents his way of being: sharing skills, encouraging and believing in ideas and in the future. His example will continue to inspire our activities”. Also joining the family are the president of Sicindustria Luigi Rizzolo and the president of the Messina Delegation Giuseppe Lupò, who express the condolences of the association and the entire business community.
