The environmental reclamation and redevelopment works of three city areas that have long been affected by situations of degradation are entering the operational phase: the general fruit and vegetable market, the municipal swimming pool area and the cemetery appurtenances. The Municipality has in fact completed the process of awarding the interventions, financed with 200 thousand euros from the Region, as part of Line B of the public notice of the Environment Department. A result accompanied by first place in the ranking, with the maximum score of 99 points. The project involves the extraordinary removal of waste and piles present in the three areas, the cleaning of the areas and the mowing of weeds. The installation of a video surveillance system is also planned to combat new abandonments and identify those responsible.
«The awarding of the works and the imminent start of the construction sites demonstrate that ours is a serious, concrete and timely administrative action. We respond to controversies with results and with the ability to continuously intercept resources” declares the Councilor for the Environment, Marco Miceli, claiming the work carried out by the Administration led by Mayor Enzo Romeo. The representative of the Executive also intervenes on the criticisms relating to waste management, recalling the data on separate waste collection: according to reports, Vibo reaches 79.2%, placing it in 21st place nationally in the latest Urban Ecosystem report and exceeding the Italian average, which stands at around 66%.
Furthermore, in 2025, overall waste production would have decreased by over 477 tons compared to the previous year. Among the other interventions claimed by the department are the 225 thousand euros allocated to the photovoltaic system of the Domenico Savio primary school, which has achieved energy self-sufficiency, and the installation of eight new bells for the collection of glass, created in collaboration with CoReVe.
