Reggina resumed work yesterday after the Christmas break. The team had a double session at the Sant’Agata sports centre, also working in the gym. Until New Year’s Day the Amaranths will train in the facility in Via delle Industrie, before moving to Campo Calabro on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd January. Important days of preparation, because the calendar will now become quite intense: after Sunday’s match against Igea Virtus, Trocini’s team will have three commitments in a week: the direct clash at Scafatese’s home (12 January), the recovery in Favara (15th) and Città di Sant’Agata (19th) at Granillo. Challenges that Reggina needs to address in the best possible general condition. The championship has so far said that the team expresses itself at its best when it can draw from the entire workforce. This is demonstrated by the fact that, until now, no prominent individual or footballer capable of making a difference on his own in the long term has emerged. Of course, sometimes there have been plays that decided a single challenge and the extraordinary winning stunt of Ragusa against Locri, but it is clear that today the amaranth team finds its strength mainly in the collective.
There are also parameters, the playing time of the individuals, from which a fairly general distribution in the squad emerges. To date, considering only the championship matches, the most used player is Girasole who has played fifteen out of sixteen matches. Similar numbers for Barranco and Ragusa: all the others are a little behind. In some cases (for example Barillà and Forciniti) injuries or suspensions had an impact, in others there were technical-tactical choices that resulted in a lack of continuity in the starting eleven.
When analyzing these numbers, the line between depth of the squad and lack of a basic structure is always thin. However, since his press conference Trocini (whose management has lasted for five games) had implied that changing little would have represented the certification of the fact that, in a given phase, things would go well.
With a team increasingly close to being full, management will be crucial. Also because, as highlighted several times, Reggina is perhaps not the best team in the eleven, but it probably is in terms of the length of the squad. Proof of this is the fact that Siracusa has chosen to expand its staff with Bonacchi.
For a Reggina that focuses on the collective, the idea remains that at least one important attack in attack can give the right sprint. The reference is to an individuality who, also trusting in the growth of those present in the squad, can for example ensure those goals that were missing from the central striker in the totality of the team’s offensive production. And a defender will probably arrive too.
