In eight months the “historical” record reached in 2006 is exceeded, when the 607 thousand passengers in transit had turned on the hopes of a relaunch. After almost twenty years, the Strait Airport marks a new goal that makes the Tito Minniti the airport with the greatest increase (+113.9% compared to 2023) of passengers in Italy in 2024. Only last year, dark shadows thickened on the future of the Strait airport. The investment of the region on the airport system and the arrival of Ryanair have reversed the route. 2024 ended with the bang (Reggio Calabria totaled 622.119 passengers, doubling the number compared to the previous year) and the 2025 has already given in the first month screaming numbers: with 64,951 passengers, it marks a percentage of growth compared to the same month of the previous year of +185%. If the trend of the Calabrian airports is all growing, the city of the Strait is the one that counts the most clear leap. The potential of the Strait airport with the strengthening of the commercial offer emerge clearly. The Messina user who has been “courted” for years has responded to the inputs and there are many passengers of the Messina opposite who prefer to get to the “Tito Minniti” rather than get to the “Bellini” airport in Catania.
