Today’s initiative is part of the ‘Fairy (Fire, Water, Earth, Air) Community’ project, an urban regeneration path of the Ecolandia Consortium and supported by the 8×1000 funds of the Waldensian Church, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Paolo Brunetti and the Councilor for the Environment, Filippo Burrone. An event supported by the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, thanks to the synergy between ‘Fata Comunità’, the environment sector of the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, the waste disposal management body Ecologia Oggi and Corepla, National Consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging, recognized by the Conai system (National Packaging Consortium).
Deputy Mayor Paolo Brunetti defined it as a great team effort: “A profound message which, from Arghillà, reaches all the citizens of the city, because it stirs the consciences of those who did not believe that the path of urban and social regeneration that this important portion of the territory is experiencing could be born and grown precisely from a peripheral neighborhood, despite the many difficulties. Thanks to the teamwork and the partnership agreement through which many initiatives of the associative world were born which perform an extraordinary activity to Arghillà, we have achieved the creation and redevelopment of structures, spaces and areas that will be good for the neighborhood and for those who live there every day. There is still a lot to do, but this Administration stands alongside those who are committed and leaves no one behind”.
Councilor Filippo Burrone spoke of an extraordinary result: “After years of commitment and efforts made in the exclusive interest of the community, today we can say that we have achieved a small but great objective towards the environmental redevelopment of an important neighbourhood, which has always been characterized by critical issues. There is still a long way to go to normalize atavistic situations which, from an environmental point of view, may seem to have no solution, but, with today’s event, the presence of ecological islands, the commitment and responsibility of the residents, we could all work together, not only to try to reduce inconveniences, but also to look to the future with a little more optimism. Thanks to those who have always believed in us.”
Laura Cirella, for the Fata Project, spoke about the work carried out in recent years on Arghillà thanks to a solid institutional synergy: “The first eco-compactor in the city is installed in a peripheral neighbourhood, and this is an important message, also because it is the result of a broad partnership which has seen the collaboration of multiple actors thanks to the unison work of public and private entities. In the next few days the project leaders will station near the eco-compactor, explaining to the citizens the method of use and plastic disposal systems also through the adjacent ecological island, installed by the Municipality”.
