Moments of fear today in the Santa Caterina district, in Reggio Calabria, where a fire broke out on the roof of a building in via Esperia, in front of the Falcomatà-Archi comprehensive institute. Flames and smoke were visible from different areas of the city. According to initial reconstructions, no injuries were reported.

Gas cylinders and methane risk, building and school evacuated

The flames, the presence of gas cylinders and the potential risk linked to the methane pipelines made it necessary to evacuate both the affected building and the school as a precaution. Firefighters and law enforcement intervened on site.

The orderly exit of the students

The evacuation operations, coordinated by the school director Serafina Corrado with the support of the head of the institute’s prevention and protection service, Professor Giovanni Quattrone, were carried out in compliance with safety procedures. The promptness of the ATA teachers and staff and the collaboration of the students allowed the building to be left in an orderly and safe manner.

According to what was reported by the school, the management of the emergency received compliments from the authorities present on site. «Thanks to all the teachers and staff for the promptness, professionalism and great sense of responsibility demonstrated», underlined the manager.
