And Matteo Salvini’s dream of seeing a Northern League mayor in Reggio? It lasted an autumn night – just the time for the regional elections – and then was shattered on Friday evening by the Forza Italia cyclone of the dynamic duo Occhiuto-Cannizzaro. The Batman and Robin in Calabrian style reiterated in Piazza Duomo (full of tricolor balloons and FI flags but not packed, this remains an exclusive prerogative of Peppe Scopelliti) that the mayor of Reggio will be an expression of Forza Italia and they even put a big shot like the Hon. Francesco Cannizzaro, the deputy group leader in the Chamber and regional coordinator of FI. Game, set, match… game over and allies warned.
The Northern League “awakening”, however, on the banks of the Strait was not traumatic. Far from it, it was almost pleasant. So much so that the provincial commissioner of the League, the fresh regional councilor Giuseppe Mattiani, wholeheartedly applauds the choice announced by Cannizzaro.
