The mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà received, in the halls of Palazzo San Giorgio, Franco LucenteCouncilor for Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Ultra-Broadband of the Lombardy Region. The meeting came at the end of the visit of the delegate of President Attilio Fontana’s council to the Hitachi Rail factories in Torre Lupo, where 131 trains for the Lombardy transport system are being assembled.

In an atmosphere of cordiality and positive collaboration, Falcomatà and Lucente underlined “the importance of the Reggio industry in a sector which is confirmed to be particularly important in its articulations and complexity”. In fact, during the interview, “the great work carried out by the management, the workers of Hitachi Rail who, from the city plant, constitute an authentic national excellence” was underlined.

Mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà, in particular, placed emphasis on criticality of the Calabrian transport and road system which “is affected by heavy gaps compared to the infrastructures of Lombardy and, more generally, of the north of the country”. The circumstance also served to turn the spotlight back on the recent inauguration of the third lot of the Gallico-Gambarie expressway, a unique development that allows travel times between the coastal side and the Aspromonte side to be significantly reduced. The work aroused the curiosity of councilor Lucente who said he was “pleased with the creation of an infrastructure that can, concretely, change the fate of a territory for the better”.

The occasion served to strengthen feelings of mutual esteem and collaboration between the Municipality of Reggio Calabria and the Lombardy Region in the awareness that «on issues related to services, transport, mobility and the quality of life of communities, institutional spirit and unity are needed , beyond any ideological or party alignment.”
