Moments of tension in the city center during a check by the local police. During a commercial and ration check service, the officers stopped a street vendor who was displaying food goods of dubious origin for sale.

When asked for documents, the man – a 39-year-old of Romanian nationality, resident in Reggio – quickly got into his car, attempting to escape and trying to run over the two officers who had ordered him to stop. In the race, he traveled in the opposite direction along two busy streets in the center, endangering the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The officers, having traced his identity via the vehicle’s license plate, reached him at his home in the Ciccarello district, where the man continued to resist before being blocked and taken to the police station.

He was arrested for resisting a public official and receiving stolen goods, as the goods on sale – packaged foods – were found to be of illicit origin. Cars and products were seized.

The arrest, ordered by the magistrate on duty, was validated by the Court of Reggio Calabria following a preliminary ruling. The man is under house arrest.
