Following the proclamation of the state of agitation of the Messina Fire Brigade with a note dated 07/26/2025 and after the negative outcome of the conciliation attempt on 09/17/25, the FPCGIL VVF – FNS CISL – UILPA VVF call the provincial sector strike on 18 October 2025. “It is our intention – write the unions – to reassure the population of the province of Messina as even during the strike, the firefighters will be ready to intervene for any requests for help that may arrive, with the same dedication as always”.
Among the reasons for the strike:
– the failure to reinforce the provincial rescue device during the AIB campaign on particular days, despite the indications of the Regional Fire Brigade Directorate;
– failure to comply with the minimum numbers, already reduced by the commander himself;
– the failure to recall personnel to replace teams requested and sent to other commands in the region for emergencies.
All this despite the fact that the territory under the jurisdiction of the Messina Command extends for approximately 200 km along the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts, crossing the Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains, with over 80% of the area characterized by steep slopes and travel times for emergency vehicles that can even exceed two hours. A complex area, hit several times by serious emergencies linked to hydrogeological disruptions and large-scale fires. For these reasons we believe reductions in the rescue system cannot be tolerated.
This working condition, implemented by the current management, cannot be any more acceptable and therefore to protect the staff and to guarantee the citizens of the province of Messina FPCGIL VVF – FNS CISL – UILPA VVF declare the strike on 18 October 2025 which will affect all the offices of the Messina Fire Brigade.
