The decree defining the implementation methods and terms of implementation of the «Mediterranean University Campus» project of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria was signed by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, together with the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti.
The provision, provided for by the 2025-2027 Budget Law, assigns the University 4 million euros – 1 million for 2025, 2 million for 2026 and 1 million for 2027 – for investments intended for the acquisition and renovation of properties to be used for the construction of the new Campus.
The initiative – explains the ministry – was made possible by an amendment to the 2025 Budget Law, presented by the Honorable Francesco Cannizzaro, which made it possible to allocate the resources necessary for the realization of the project.
The decree, now subjected to preventive control by the Court of Auditors, regulates the methods of presentation of the program of interventions by the University and the related implementation times. The University will have to present a program for the acquisition and renovation of the properties, accompanied by a technical-economic feasibility project and a timetable of the interventions. The assessment of adequacy and functionality will be entrusted to a Commission appointed by the General Secretary of the Mur.
The project will give life to the first real university campus in Reggio Calabria, conceived as a place of interdisciplinary and multifunctional exchange between students, teachers, researchers and citizens, with academic buildings, study, research and social spaces, sports facilities, libraries and green areas. A modern, inclusive and sustainable environment – explains the ministry – with university accommodation intended for deserving Italian and foreign students, with particular attention to those coming from the Mediterranean basin and from areas affected by humanitarian crises.
