The Court of Reggio Calabria today acquitted Giovanni Nucera, 71 years old, former regional councilor of Calabria, “for not having committed the crime”.at the time of the PDL, and councilor and municipal councilor in Reggio, from the accusation of external complicity in a mafia association in relation to the 2010 regional elections. Together with Nucera, Giuseppe and Filippo Condemi were also acquitted.
The indictment was decided in 2019. The Court, in addition to acquitting Nucera of external complicity, declared that it was not necessary to proceed against the same accused due to the statute of limitations for the crime of electoral corruption, after excluding the aggravating circumstance of mafia facilitation. Nucera, it is written in a note, «intended to address his thoughts of thanks to Mary, Most Holy Mother of Consolation, and also to all those, especially in his own family, who supported him with affection and dedication during these years of suffering. A grateful thought, Nucera, addressed to his lawyers, lawyers Antonino Priolo of the Court of Reggio Calabria and Nunzio Raimondi, formed in the defense panel together with the lawyer Manuela Costa, the latter two, of the Court of Catanzaro”.

The only regret concerns the very long time it took to reach a verdict of complete non-compliance with the facts with respect to the very serious and defamatory accusations, which have strongly undermined the public image of the man and the politician”.
