Another significant intervention by the Carabinieri Company of Reggio Calabria against domestic violence resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old manaccused of resisting a public official and reported while at liberty for domestic abuse.
This episode is part of constant action by the Army, committed daily to the protection of the rights and protection of victims of gender violence. The incident dates back to 30 December last, when a call to the emergency number 112 alerted the police, who were alerted by a woman who was desperately asking for help.. The victim, together with her daughters, had been living for some time in a situation of constant psychological and physical violence, suffered by her partner. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the woman decided to report, finally hoping to get out of the drama she was experiencing. The prompt intervention of a patrol from the Radiomobile Section allowed the police to arrive on site promptly.
When the soldiers reached the house, they found an angry man who, instead of cooperating, reacted with death threats and insults, continuing to try to forcefully enter the apartment, where his partner and daughters were they had taken refuge to escape his fury. Despite numerous attempts by the police to calm the situation and establish a dialogue with the man, the latter continued with a violent and provocative attitude, refusing to calm down. At that point, the military was forced to proceed with the arrest for resisting a public official. In the barracks, the police listened to the testimonies of the woman and her daughters, who confirmed a picture of violence that had been going on for some time. The physical and psychological violence was now unbearable, and the woman, unfortunately, had endured it in silence due to fear, shame and uncertainties linked to the complaint. The investigations carried out by the military confirmed the existence of the crime of domestic abuse. In light of this, in addition to the arrest for resistance, the man was reported in a state of freedom for the mistreatment suffered by the victims over the months and years. Furthermore, to protect the safety of the victims, an order was issued to remove them from the family home, with the obligation to maintain a safe distance from the house and the people involved. This intervention demonstrates the effectiveness of the alert system and the prompt response of the police, who, unfortunately, find themselves managing a painful and widespread reality such as that of domestic violence.
