Sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison for stabbing to death the thief discovered in his own home, in the Oliveto di Rosario Valanidi neighborhood on the hilly southern outskirts of Reggio Calabria. The Court of Assizes accepted the request of the Reggio Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the heavy sentence imposed on the butcher from Reggio, Francesco Putortì. The facts date back to the morning of May 27, 2024, when one of the stabbed thieves was abandoned by his gang at the entrance to the Morelli hospital where he died a few seconds after arriving.
The victim was Alfio Stancapiano from Catania, while his accomplice, Giovanni Bruno, also from Catania, was seriously injured. The defense thesis of the lawyers Giulia Dieni and Natale Polimeni of the Reggio Bar was not accepted and they immediately supported the thesis of negligent excess of self-defense.
