Extraordinary maintenance and compliance work continues on the terrace of Palazzo Alvaro, headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria. The activity includes the energy efficiency and air conditioning systems of the ancient building. In these hours, in fact, the company in charge, through the use of a crane which made it necessary to close the street adjacent to the building to transit, is taking care of the complete removal of the large ventilation system located at the top of the valuable property. The intervention, therefore, was necessary due to the now obsolete conditions of the waterproofing of both the terrace and the pavilion vault overlooking the council chamber and many other rooms.

The amount of the project amounts to approximately 600 thousand euros and is followed by the Construction sector, led by the manager, Giuseppe Mezzatestarup Loredana Briantiwith the design and construction supervision of the architect Umberto Sorrenti.

The objective, in addition to radically improving the energy quality of Palazzo Alvaro, is to make the so-called “Winter Garden” usable, a large space, never used to date, which will embellish the highest level of the building and which it could represent a further meeting point for citizens in which to carry out artistic and cultural activities.

The overall construction site activities also include the creation of a bonded screed, the installation of a vapor barrier and an insulating layer, the creation of a decoupled cement screed after laying a horizontal separating layer, the laying of waterproofing, the installation of the floating type terrace flooring, made up of vibro-compressed concrete slabs with a dry-assembled pebble finish so as to allow, even in the future, that any maintenance interventions on the waterproofing layer can be carried out by dismantling and reassembling the flooring without destroying it.
