The turnout to the vote in Calabria is maintained on low levels. Until 11pm last night, 29.01 percent of those entitled voted, even decreasing compared to the modest 30.87 hundred registered in 2021 and always taking into consideration the first day of opening of the seats. The “higher” participation rate recorded in the province of Reggio Calabria with 32.24 percent, followed by those of Catanzaro and Crotone, respectively with 31.92 and 28.80 percent, then Vibo Valentia with 26.67 percent. To close Cosenza with just 26.21 percent. However, there is still a margin to improve the data because the seats will remain open until 3 pm today. Four years ago the final turnout stood at 44.37 percent.

The numbers, therefore, at least for the moment do not record that turnaround desired by many parties. A worrying signal, yet another, in the direction of disaffection against politics and institutions. Of course, in the evaluation of the numbers, all Calabrian specificities must also be taken into account. Between the Pollino and the Strait there are 1,888,368 entitled, paradoxically more than the residents in the Region – 1,855,454 (from the last census of 2021) -, because within them there are also 367,000 Calabrians residing abroad and registered in AIRE, and therefore having the right (of these it does not vote for practically no one, because for the regional there is no vote by correspondence). Moreover, in Calabria there are about 250/300 thousand people (between students and workers) who are domiciled outside, but which still keep residence in this region.
