Regionals in Calabria: the harakiri of the Calendians, the rift with Occhiuto and then the “gift” to the Renzians

All in the space of a couple of months. The resignation of Roberto Occhiuto, the rift with the centre-right (with Calenda calling Occhiuto a “bully” in front of cameras and journalists’ notebooks), the early end of the legislature, the choice to join the centre-left giving life to the Reformist House project, and finally the failure to be elected to the Regional Council. Francesco De Nisi and Giuseppe Graziano, the two standard bearers of Action in Calabria, chew bitterly. From co-protagonists of the scorching political summer to the “excellent” excluded from the electoral round that has just been archived. A joke exacerbated by the fact that their consensus – both achieved a good result on a personal level – proved decisive for the election in the Spaceship of Filomena Greco, regional coordinator of Italia Viva. Without their preferences, Casa Riformista would hardly have exceeded the 4 percent quorum necessary to access the distribution of the 30 seats up for grabs. But that’s it. For the moment, all that remains are regrets and recriminations regarding an electoral law, the Calabrian one, characterized by some anomalies and rather singular rules.
