“Things don’t always go as we would like. You must be implacable and pretentious with us, this is what makes a people and a community towards their representatives. We are giving everything.” With these words, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the citizens during the centre-right rally in Bari, in support of the candidate for the presidency of the Puglia Region Luigi Lobuono, in view of the next regional elections. The leader of the Brothers of Italy defended the government’s actions, underlining how the executive “has always put Italians before everything”.

The maneuver

Meloni then responded to the opposition’s criticisms of the budget law: “The left talks to us about fairness, when we were the ones who made a move for social fairness and asked for a contribution from the banks. They who took money from workers to give it to the banks… Lessons from these people, no.” Regarding the economic measure, the Prime Minister recalled that “it is the fourth in three years and is worth 18.7 billion euros”. A measure which, according to Meloni, the opposition would have defined as “a maneuver” only because “there is not enough money”. “But it is worth remembering – he added – that we could have made a maneuver if we did not have 40 billion euros in credits from Conte’s brilliant superbonus”. Meloni then forcefully rejected the accusations of favoritism towards the wealthier groups: “Maneuver for the rich? It takes courage to say things like that.”

Healthcare

«If the Regions give us a hand, our goal is to reduce waiting lists. Here too, things are starting to get better: with the measures taken at a national level, so far this year the National Health System has provided 1.3 million more services to Italians. At this rate, at the end of the year there will be over 2 million more services compared to the previous year thanks to the government’s choices” said the Premier.

The lunge to the left

In his speech, he also commented on the strike called by the CGIL against the budget law, joking: “Let’s not forget that we’re going to make the revolution on a Tuesday… Workers’ rights are not a priority for some.” Finally, the leader of FdI claimed her party’s political results: “They said that Brothers of Italy could not reach 5% of the consensus. In the latest poll we are at 31.4%, the highest level ever after three years of government. Something that had never happened since polls existed”. With a decisive tone, Meloni reiterated his desire to continue on the path undertaken: “We move forward with our heads held high, with the awareness of having made difficult but right choices for Italy. Only Italians can send Meloni home to us, this is democracy and the left is not used to it.”
