An evening full of emotion and reflection inaugurated the cultural event “Temporanee distrazioni” on 7 November in the meeting room of the Order of Doctors and Dentists of Cosenza. An evocative title for a project strongly desired by the Council of the Order, chaired by Agata Mollica, which intends to give voice not only to the professionalism of doctors, but also to their most human and curious dimension, the one that feeds on art, history and thought. The initiative was born with a clear ambition: to enrich the cultural fabric of the territory through thematic meetings that show how culture, when authentic, knows how to dig deep and offer food for thought capable of broadening horizons, even on contemporary issues. To open the exhibition, the event entitled “The two journeys of Francis, between history and worship”, dedicated to the extraordinary figure of San Francesco di Paola, a Saint who crossed the centuries and borders, bringing with him a message of faith, poverty and respect for Humanity. The evening began with the screening of the docufilm “The two journeys of Francesco”, directed by Claudio Metallo, with texts by Dr. Roberto Pititto and the lawyer. Andrea Signorelli, accompanied by the original music of Maestro Francesco Perri.
The narration, entrusted to the intense voice of Carlo Lucarelli, transported the audience on the journey undertaken by the Saint towards Tours, to the court of Louis Francis, with his example of moral rigor and concrete charity, was able to dialogue with everyone, reiterating the essentiality of the Christian message and the primacy of the weakest. Following, the speech by prof. Giuseppe Fortunato, professor of Architectural Surveying at the University of Calabria, led those present on a “journey within a journey”: a fascinating exploration of the Sanctuary of Paola, its hidden spaces and the profound meanings that guided its construction. A story that intertwined art and spirituality, showing how stone and light can become tools for narrating faith. “What does Francis say to contemporary man?” — is the question that accompanied, like a red thread, the entire evening. A question raised by the president of the Order, Agata Mollica, to the speakers and the public, in an open and participatory dialogue. The response was unanimous: Francesco di Paola is a model of coherence, faith and courage, an example of authentic Humanism from which man of all times can draw inspiration to live in balance with himself, with others and with the world. The evening fully achieved the objective of the event: combining history and culture, but above all updating the values that resist time and which, today more than ever, represent a beacon in a society crossed by contradictions, superficiality and confusion. With “Temporary distractions”, the Medical Association of Cosenza proposes itself, therefore, as a promoter of a dialogue between science and culture, between profession and passion, opening a new and necessary space for collective reflection. Because, as one of the speakers recalled, >.
