One person has died and several others have been injured following an “accident” on a roller coaster at an amusement park in Georgia, in the south-east of the United States. The authorities have not confirmed the circumstances but have made it known that they are investigating what happened at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Nine roller coasters in six parks closed

Six Flags, a theme park operator with facilities across North America, has temporarily closed nine similar roller coasters at six different parks “as a precaution.” Authorities did not specify which attraction was involved in the accident in Georgia, but local media identified it as the “Goliath” roller coaster.

The attraction and precedent in California

According to the park’s website, the attraction reaches a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour (113 km/h) and a height of 200 feet (61 meters). The accident follows Six Flags’ decision last month to permanently close a popular roller coaster at its California theme park after dozens of people reported suffering brain damage on the ride.
