Consolidating the bond of strong belonging and familiarity with Franco Costabile, already celebrated last year with the inauguration of the permanent exhibition “Camera Oscura. Mario Giacomelli and the song of the new emigrants”, on the occasion of the Centenary of the birth of the Calabrian poet, very dear to Ungaretti and friend, among many, of Giorgio Caproni, the MABOS – Museo d’Arte del Bosco della Sila has decided to promote a new residential format that calls poets to the arts to tell, with a new look and approach, the experience of residency and the work produced there.
“Since the birth of MABOS, in 2017, we have promoted the Residencies that allow you to have a magical place in which to experiment and interact with other artists, art critics, curators and professionals. This year, we have decided to strengthen the coexistence between poetic and artistic vision by giving life to the Rooms of Imaginary Life, to be tested within the perimeter of wooded terraces chosen by each artist for the placement of their work, then “inhabited” by a poet” declares the director of MABOS, Elisa Longo, announcing that, in collaboration with the collective La Masnada, active in the area for 25 years with actions of diffusion and valorization of the poetic word, they invite some of the most incisive personalities in the panorama of contemporary poetry to participate.
The first residency starts on July 17th with the sculptor Pietro De Scisciolo, professor of Ornamental Plastic at the Academy of Fine Arts in Foggia, characterized by an aesthetic research in continuous balance between the playful and the poetic, with a predilection for the use of materials that are in continuity with tradition. He masterfully mixes different languages with which he creates
ironic and provocative works at the same time, in continuous interaction with the natural environment in which they are inserted.
He will be joined by the Swiss painter and sculptor Sebastiano Dammone Sessa who lives between Calabria and Abruzzo where he teaches Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in L’Aquila. He has developed a personal path of investigation focused mainly on the stratification of materials, oriented to the study of light and color, without reference to the objective dimension of reality.
In the perspective of renewal that subverts the scheme and rules of the traditional artist residency, until July 21, the two artists will create two installations, embellished with different, atypical pages of artistic literature, imbued with the poetic vision of Davide Brullo, well-known critic, poet and founder of the cultural magazine “Pangea”.
“In agreement with the writers of La Masnada – Longo specifies – he could only be our first guest: an authentic visionary, a refined poet, an honest and therefore severe critic. His Pangea represents a beacon for those who cannot surrender to the idea of a shipwrecked literary culture”.
This special edition of Stanze di Vita Immaginaria will be made even more exclusive by the iconic image signed by Giuseppe Talarico, artistic director of the project The Calabreser, who with irony and freshness represents models of iconicity of Calabria, and by the visual contributions of the photographer Valentina Procopio.
“This residency represents only the first stage of our ever-evolving journey thanks to the blending of artistic languages, within the celebrations organized by the Franco Costabile 100 Committee, which we have joined since its inception” comments Mario Talarico, founder of MABOS, making an appointment in the enchanting open-air museum, at the gates of the Sila Catanzaro area, to celebrate together the beauty of art in its many forms.
