Shutters lowered for two weeks in a well-known bar in Rosarno. The police commissioner of Reggio Calabria ordered the temporary suspension of the license for 15 days pursuant to article 100 of the TULPS (Consolidated Law on Public Security), after investigations by the police ascertained that the place had now become a fixed meeting point for individuals with criminal records.

The controls and the provision

The crackdown began at the end of a series of sweeping checks in the area and within public establishments, carried out consistently by agents of the Gioia Tauro State Police Station. The monitoring, spread over a significant period of time, made it possible to document the systematic and habitual presence of numerous offenders among the bar tables.

The subjects identified during the various raids by the police are burdened by precedents for crimes of particular social alarm, including:

Drug dealing

Crimes against the person

Crimes against property

Stop administration for two weeks

The investigative activity and reports of the Gioia Tauro police officers were examined by the Administrative and Social Police Division of the Reggio Police Headquarters. Once the investigation was completed and the risks to public order and the safety of citizens were identified, the suspension of the supply of food and drinks was issued, with the consequent and immediate closure of the facility for fifteen days.

The provision pursuant to art. 100 of the TULPS, it should be remembered, does not have a punitive nature towards the owner of the business, but responds to a dissuasive and preventive function: the objective is to deprive dangerous individuals of their usual place of aggregation and restore legality in the area.
