As part of the extraordinary checks arranged by the State Police in the Gioia Tauro plain, a significant figure emerged: just over 30% of the people identified were found to have criminal or police records. In fact, out of 1,071 individuals subjected to verification, 337 had a criminal record.

The operations, conducted by the Gioia Tauro police station, were concentrated in the Rosarno area and along the main road arteries, such as the Ionian-Tyrrhenian state road and state road 18. 464 vehicles were checked, including cars, motorbikes and heavy vehicles, and dog units and Forensic Police personnel were used to investigate targets deemed sensitive.

During the checks, seven administrative fines were imposed for violations of the Highway Code, with the seizure of an uninsured car. Also verified were 44 people subjected to home detention measures.

The initiative, the Police explain, is part of a broader strategy to strengthen territorial control, aimed at guaranteeing greater security in the areas considered most vulnerable in the province of Reggio Calabria.
